Established a decade ago Stephen Grubits & Associates (SGA) is a major Australian-owned fire-safety engineering, building regulation and risk assessment consultancy, specialising in complex and innovative construction projects. Our reputation is built on our respected track record, achieved through a comprehensive understanding of the development process and the compliance terrain, knowledge of fire phenomena and our reliability in providing safe and cost-effective advice and solutions.
Stephen Grubits has been the Managing Director of Stephen Grubits & Associates since establishing the company in 1996. Stephen has over 40 years experience in the development and application of fire science and engineering technologies and is an internationally recognised expert in fire-safety engineering and the application of environmental simulation modelling of complex ventilation systems. He is widely regarded as Australia's foremost authority in this area. Prior to establishing his own company, Stephen was National Manager of the Fire Science and Technology Centre at CSIRO, where he was responsible for both research and the provision of expert consultancy services to industry. Stephen has made major contributions to fire-safety science and has been instrumental in the reform of Australian fire regulations.
Carlos Quaglia is a director of Stephen Grubits & Associates and is an internationally recognised expert in the area of building regulation and fire-safety design. Carlos has broad experience in consulting engineering, design and construction, and has made a significant contribution to the worldwide evolution toward performance-based fire-safety regulation and design. He spent ten years as CSIRO’s leading consulting fire-safety engineer, where he pioneered some of the most innovative fire-safety designs ever to have been implemented internationally. Carlos co-authored the Fire Engineering Guidelines and has lectured at a number of leading Australian universities and overseas organisations. As well as serving on Australian Standards technical committees, Carlos has consulted internationally for the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
